Thank you for sparing the time to read this.
I'm sorry for not writing to you in a more personal way, it's because preparations kept me busy until very recently, leaving little time to spread the word.
Every year, I co-ordinate a global online awareness building event to highlight the problem of children born with heart defects.
On February 14th, Valentine's Day, a world-wide group of enthusiastic supporters join hands to focus the spotlight on a different kind of
'A Day for Hearts - Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Day'
My goal, in 2008, is to tap the network of well-known, influential and powerful citizens of the social media space - including YOU - to try and reach at least half a million people with the message of children with heart defects needing support.
And because I want this effort to be just as valuable for you as for the people you will be telling about it, I have tried to integrate it into a set of 'mini-challenges'.
These are really tutorials packaged into step-by-step training that will help/guide people wanting to explore the exciting field of social media for marketing and communication.
The following are already done:
I'm exploring several ideas for doing more along these lines too.
To get a better idea of exactly how these integrate into the core purpose of helping spread CHD awareness, see these links:
The 10 Day Blog Profit Challenge Directory:
All blogs participating in this event displayed a button and link promoting CHD awareness. Then, they reached a wide audience by implementing the blog marketing systems included in the free course.
The Squidoo for CHD Challenge:
Participants, who themselves created Squidoo lenses for spreading awareness, signed the guestbook and helped create a social network of lenses focused on CHD. It grew to a point where we created a Squidoo Group for CHD, and I hope to grow membership bigger this year.
With the virtual explosion of social media and networks recently, I am sure the word can spread wider and faster by tapping into the various tools and resources like Twitter, StumbleUpon, Digg, Sphinn, MySpace, Facebook, Delicious and more.
It would be fantastic if you, as a leader and very 'connected' person in this space, will join in and help get word out about this initiative.
There are many different ways people can help with the CHD Awareness effort. I've listed a few on the "A Day for Hearts" event homepage (which has been up since 1999)
But I cannot do this alone. I need help. YOUR help.
The children do.
You can help in any way you like. Here are some ideas:
You can tell your audience about the 'mini-challenges'
You can blog about Congenital Heart Defects and 'A Day for Hearts'
You can post on Twitter (and equivalents) where your voice will ripple and resonate, reaching more and more people with this message
You can email your lists
Or anything else you think will help.
Or anything else you think will help.
From being the spark of an idea and the seed of a dream, this effort has grown to raise over $100,000 and has already funded TWENTY-THREE operations for children through my non-profit organization. Details are in this report - click here to download the PDF.
Your support can help scale this effort bigger and reach many more children who need assistance and care.
And the mini-challenges themselves are educational, instructive and fun.
Over 1,700 people have taken the '10 Day Blog Profits' challenge in the past, and here's what some of them had to say:

"Thanks for giving so generously of your valuable time and sharing your tips and strategies. It was great joining your challenge ... opening my eyes to other possibilities. I would recommend this challenge to anybody interested in expanding their knowledge in IM. It costs nothing but a small amount of time - I called it my "homework assignment" - each day." - Kevin Riley "I liked having an outline of what to do each day and it being something that I could accomplish. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. My benefits were that I got a better feel for how to build a blogger blog and how to use html in the blog and how to build links and traffic to the blog. I don't know how you could have done better unless you stretched it over a few more days. When I buckled down right at first of each day and did the assignment, I got it done. Then if I had any time left, I could use it on other interesting things that I usually gave top priority to before. So maybe my most important benefit was seeing that I could accomplish so much if I did it first each day instead of being distracted and not having enough time left to be productive. Thanks so much for allowing me to be in this group. It was great and I certainly look forward to doing it again if you are willing. All a person has to do is manage their time better and they will accomplish a lot." - Leonard Mullen "I'm happy to give a testimonial for the Blog Challenge. It was an extremely helpful step-by-step and above all, PRACTICAL, guide. The rationale behind each action was clearly explained and the steps easy to do, (though the first two days were much more time-consuming than the others). There could have been a bit more help on how to submit to article directories but overall the balance between spoonfeeding and letting us learn ourselves was very good. I'm raring to go for the next" - Martin Luxton "I thought the program was very informative. I liked the way you precisely laid things out so that anyone could follow it. Plus, it showed the importance of doing something every day. And, it gave me experience doing a lot of different things, like starting a blog, getting an adsense account, writing an article, etc. I also liked the idea of doing it along with other people so you could see what everyone was doing as well as getting some mental confirmation that you were doing the right thing. It was like being in a classroom. And yes, I got some adsense clicks and earned some money without hardly doing anything. Oh yes, thanks for doing the whole thing. You can't beat the price and it was pretty nice of you to even go through with it." - Tom Krukiel Thanks also for allowing to participate in the BLOG CHALLENGE program. It was an eye opener for me and I know to many others as well. I've notÊmade money yet but I strongly believe I will very soon. - Bakari
